A garden with a strong idea behind it.

A complete design service for spaces that need structure, clarity and a plan before work begins.

The service

We start with the whole site: how you arrive, where you pause, what you see from the house and which parts of the garden need to earn their keep.

A good plan solves several things at once. It can make a narrow garden feel broader, make a slope useful, give an extension a proper relationship with the outside and create privacy without boxing the garden in. We develop the large moves first, then work into levels, materials, lighting, planting and the details a contractor needs to build confidently.

A good fit when

This service is likely to suit you if…

You are planning a substantial garden redesign

The space has awkward levels, access or proportions

An extension or renovation has changed how the house meets the garden

You want to understand the whole scheme before committing to construction

What happens next

From first conversation to a resolved garden.

Brief & site reading

We establish priorities, practical constraints and the character worth preserving.

Concept design

We test layout, circulation, levels and the relationship between hard landscape and planting.

Developed design

Materials, details, planting and key dimensions are resolved so the scheme can be priced and built.

The Alder & Stone approach

Quiet decisions. Strong result.

We avoid overfilling a garden with features. Proportion, circulation, a limited material palette and confident planting usually do more than a long wish list.

That restraint also gives the garden room to age. Stone weathers, timber softens, plants fill out and the space becomes less “new” and more like part of the property.

Next step

Send us the garden as it is — not as you think it ought to be.
