Garden renovation

Keep the maturity. Lose the muddle.

A lighter-touch service for established gardens that have good bones but have become overgrown, disconnected or difficult to use.

The service

We identify what deserves to stay, repair the spatial structure and introduce new planting or materials only where they make the garden work better.

Older gardens often contain valuable ingredients: established trees, walls, hedges, stonework and plants that would take years to replace. The problem is usually that later additions have blurred the original structure or the way the garden is used has changed. Renovation is about editing carefully rather than clearing the site and starting again.

Garden review and edit plan

Selective clearance and reshaping

Reworked terraces, paths or boundaries

Rejuvenated and new planting

A good fit when

This service is likely to suit you if…

The garden has maturity you do not want to lose

Paths, patios or planting have become disconnected over time

You want a significant improvement without a complete rebuild

Existing planting needs editing, dividing or rebalancing rather than replacement

What happens next

From first conversation to a resolved garden.

Edit

We identify what is valuable, what is merely familiar and what is actively getting in the way.

Reconnect

Routes, seating and boundaries are simplified so the garden reads clearly again.

Replant

Existing specimens are reshaped where appropriate and new planting is used to rebuild rhythm and seasonal interest.

The Alder & Stone approach

Quiet decisions. Strong result.

We avoid overfilling a garden with features. Proportion, circulation, a limited material palette and confident planting usually do more than a long wish list.

That restraint also gives the garden room to age. Stone weathers, timber softens, plants fill out and the space becomes less “new” and more like part of the property.

Next step

Send us the garden as it is — not as you think it ought to be.
