Assess
We keep useful mature plants and identify the conditions each border is really working with.
Planting design
Layered, site-specific schemes designed for season, structure, movement and the amount of maintenance you actually want.
Discuss your gardenThe service
We begin with the conditions — soil, aspect, exposure, moisture, existing trees and the architecture around the garden. From there, we build a framework of structural plants and layer in grasses, perennials, bulbs and seasonal highlights. The aim is not maximum variety. It is a planting community that has rhythm, repetition and enough resilience to mature well.

A good fit when
The hard landscaping works but the planting feels thin or disjointed
You want year-round structure rather than one short flowering season
You need privacy softened with planting instead of solid screening
You want a scheme matched to the time you realistically have for maintenance
What happens next
We keep useful mature plants and identify the conditions each border is really working with.
Structure, repeated groups and seasonal layers are mapped across the garden.
Plants are sourced at sensible sizes and positioned in the real space before final planting.
The Alder & Stone approach
We avoid overfilling a garden with features. Proportion, circulation, a limited material palette and confident planting usually do more than a long wish list.
That restraint also gives the garden room to age. Stone weathers, timber softens, plants fill out and the space becomes less “new” and more like part of the property.
